Short Synopsis

My African Food Friends is a visual series (photos+video), and an extension of the on-going Food Map project. At its core, this new series is about people coming together and sharing delicious foods from African and Black diasporic kitchens, in a relaxed, intimate setting. This series will show us how food becomes a platform for fostering new friendships and partnerships between people meeting for the first time. Above all, My African Food Friends will introduce a novel approach to exploring the connections between cultures and histories through food, and open up the conversation about how and what we consume – at both a local and global level.

The pilot episode of the series features a prodigious gathering of artists, performers, and cultural thinkers and was sponsored by Fairtrade Deutschland. Including Fairtrade products in this episode will further highlight the subject of ethical consumption as well as our food sourcing practices. While this episode has been filmed in Berlin, Germany, the coming episodes will also include other cities in Europe, and later, in the Americas, and Asia.
